Botanical Shadow Drawing

Discover a simple way to create a pen and ink botanical drawing...

You will need:

• Fibre tip pen or pencil.
• Dried or fresh flowers.
• A light source (or window on a bright day).

Sit so that the item you are holding in your hand casts a shadow on your paper, then draw around that shadow.

You can either just draw the outline of your flower and colour that in afterwards with some water colours, leave the outline or fill it with your pen or pencil so that it is an exact copy of the shadow.

You might want to create a meadow effect by grouping lots of different flowers together across the page as they might grow in the wild, have a single flower or create a random pattern with the flowers at different angles all over the page.
